Job Title: Adult Basic Education (ABE) Student Support Services
Location: Frederick Abisi Adult Education Center
Full time Mornings and some evenings
OVERVIEW: Responsible for the advising and guiding of adult learners in their education and career pursuits
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with program orientation for morning and evening ESOL students.
- Assist adult learners with setting job and career goals; provide relevant information to facilitate achievement; and assist identifying any potential barriers and necessary support services.
- Conduct follow-up and track students’ progress towards goal.
- Advise students and make referrals to appropriate community service.
- Coordinate student activities.
- Coordinate and supervise all activities related to the Student Reward Program.
- Organize and maintain information for student attendance awards and goal achievements.
- Promote student participation and leadership at school and in the community.
- Work closely with the director and teachers implementing programs and services for adult learners.
- Develop programs and initiatives to address student needs, including presentations in classrooms, information sessions, participation in community activities.
- Provide assistance and oversee the development of the monthly school newsletter.
- Manage and regularly update the center's social media channels.
- work flexible hours, bring services to the evening program and attend evening meetings when needed.
- Develop and maintain appropriate contact with students to determine needs and provide assistance.
- Prepare and disseminate educational and informational materials to students and staff through various information sources.
- Perform other duties as may be required by the Program Director.
REQUIREMENT/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual Spanish/English, Portuguese/English or Khmer/English is desirable.
- Bachelor's degree is required with at least five years' experience working with immigrants in counseling, teaching, or a managerial capacity.
- Experience in group-facilitation and planning with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently to achieve goals and responsibilities.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of second language students, school staff, and the general public.
- Ability to understand and be sensitive to the needs of disadvantaged groups and formulate and implement solutions with the premise of equitable access.
- Knowledge of and contact with community resources and community agencies strongly preferred.
- Strong computer skills in Google Suite, Microsoft 365, email platforms, iOS, database management software, virtual meeting tools, and online productivity tools.
- Strong customer service skills.
